40 lbs of wings and 5 Sauces

On Friday Dan and Dave went to the butcher and picked up a whopping 40 lbs of wings for our Wing Night. We had a few different sauces we wanted to try out at home which were; Legend Larry’s Hot, Legend Larry’s Medium, Legend Larry’s Honey BBQ, Gater Sauce by Gator Hammock, and Anchor Bar Original Hotter Sauce. We’ve talked about the Legend Larry’s Hot and Medium Sauces on here before so suffices to say we’re still fans.

Here are a couple shots of our rig we use at Dan’s house. Just your standard fair turkey fryer. But that’s really all you need.

We cooked the wings in batches, probably 5-8 lbs at a time. We started off with the Larry’s Hot and Medium. Again, can’t go wrong. The second batch was dedicated to the people that prefer their wings a little more on the mild side. I tried the Legend Larry’s Honey BBQ and I really wasn’t a fan personally. Not so much because it wasn’t hot, but the flavor was just not my thing. It was too sweet. But others seemed to enjoy it.

The third batch was all about trying out the new sauces. When tryingThe Gater Sauce alone (a dab on your finger), it seemed pretty hot. On the wings though the sauce wasn’t as hot as you would have thought. But, it was quite flavorful. The main flavor that stood out to me was celery or celery salt, which I really liked. The Gator sauce was easily one of the most unique sauces we’ve tried so far and I think most everyone agreed was delicious. I can see myself using that sauce in a lot of different cooking. For instance on ribs, pizza, pork chops, or a whole chicken. The Anchor Hot Buffalo sauce was good, but a little disappointing in the sense that it wasn’t very hot. I was tempted to get their medium, but ended up getting the hot because I wanted a good quality hot buffalo sauce. The flavor itself was good, but comparing it to the heat of a Legend Larry’s hot, it was very mild. Again, I think we all liked it, but just expected a little more heat. I will say trying the sauce at home wouldn’t get me to rush out to Anchor Bar in NY to try out their wings. But I know wings always taste different at the restaurant. Hopefully a trip to NY is in our gang’s near future to compare the bottled sauce to the real deal.

All in all the wings turned out great. Everyone was happy with the different sauces and everyone left plenty full of wings and beer.

40 lbs. of wings huh? What, did you eat like 4 of them? I also saw in your pictures of that night a plate of celery. What kind of a girl eats celery when you have all those delicious wings to eat? I challenge you to a wing eat off. You buy the wings I buy the beer. It can even be on your turf (your house). Warriors, come out to plaaaaaay.

The celery was not for me. Neither was the ranch.

You so called “challenge” would not be much of a challenge. You are soul brother too buku for me to challenge.

You should change your nickname from boneyard to boneless. I shall from this day forth be known as curtis the Beerbarian eater of wings.

I would hide in someone’s suitcase for a trip to something this awesome. In my stupidity I didn’t even know you could get wings from a butcher. I am going to try and have one of these here.

Best part about getting them from the butcher is that you can have them cut the tip off. You can imagine buying 40 lbs of wings and having to throw away 2lbs of tips. What a waste. When the butcher does it then you are just paying for the wings.
