Is Magoo’s the ‘Stallis Champ?
We’ve all been going to Magoo’s for a a while now. Some of us longer then others. Jer had been telling me about Magoo’s and I finally went with him few years ago and fell in love with these wings. Magoo’s wings really are something special. I’m not going to talk about each flavor because there’s one flavor above all that puts Magoo’s on the map and that’s the Tough Guy.
Magoo’s grills their wings which gives them the most absolute perfect, crispy skin, with just the right amount of char flavor. There’s no such thing as a slimy, soggy, half-ass wing at Magoo’s. With the grilling, the wings are a dry style wing and therefore you aren’t going to have sauce dripping down your chin. Up until I first had Magoo’s I preferred a extra saucy wing. Magoo’s made me a believer though and I love a good grilled wing as much as the sauciest sauced wing. The size of their wings are perfect too, big, but not giant. The Tough Guy heat varies from night to night. Sometimes it’s a nice burn and sometimes the burn gets a little more intense, but never uncomfortable. It’s not a night wrecker. The flavor is not really Buffalo style, instead it’s got own unique spicy, tangy flavor.
The rest of Magoo’s wings are good as well. I wouldn’t hesitate ordering any of them…if these Tough Guys weren’t just so damn good.
Wednesday is their wing day and they have $.40 wings. For $4 for 10 wings you can’t go wrong, but the quality of the wings makes then a real bargain.
Now as with any review the service and the atmosphere are always brought up. Magoo’s is your typical West Allis dive, but with outstanding wings. When smoking was allowed it was almost unbearable for non-smokers (even smokers agree that it was bad before), but now that smoking is no longer an issue it’s a lot easier to breath and enjoy yourself. I used to call the downstairs The Bowels of West Allis.
I hate to bring this up and this is one of the first negative things I’ve had to mention in my reviews. But lets just say one of the waitress’s wasn’t happy I took a picture of her while she was bringing our wings out. I didn’t ask her for permission first, however we had all been in there so often that I figured it would be the place someone would have an issue with me taking their photo. For the record though I have never had bad service at Magoo’s before and I wouldn’t say I had bad service the night we did the review.
So that sums it up. Magoo’s has the best wings in West Allis. No doubt about it. Johnny Hammers is a very close second though.
